Warhammer 40,000: Darktide throws you into the grimy underhive of Tertium, a planet overrun by the forces of Nurgle. As a newly conscripted operative, you'll face endless hordes of Poxwalkers, cultists, and daemonic monstrosities. Here are 10 essential tips to keep you alive and help you serve the Emperor effectively.

1. Master Your Class Role

Each class excels in specific tasks – don't try to be a jack-of-all-trades. The Veteran is your ranged DPS, the Zealot a melee blender, the Psyker a crowd-control mage, and the Ogryn a tank and crowd-striker. Stick to your role and your team will thank you.

2. Toughness Is Your Shield

Toughness is the most important defensive layer. It regenerates quickly when not taking damage, so learn to break line of sight or dodge to let it recover. If your Toughness breaks, you take health damage which is much harder to heal. Use cover and slide often.

3. Abuse the Push Attack

Every melee weapon can perform a push (block + attack) that staggers enemies. Pushing is your best tool against hordes – it creates space and interrupts attacks. Follow up with a quick light attack for safe damage.

4. Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive, and Dodge

Darktide's dodge mechanic is essential. You can dodge in any direction while attacking or blocking. Use it to avoid telegraphed heavy attacks from Maulers and Crushers, and to reposition when surrounded. Spam dodge when cornered; it costs no stamina.

5. Manage Your Stamina

Blocking and pushing consume stamina. Never let your stamina hit zero – you'll be staggered and vulnerable. Use stamina curio upgrades and learn to block only when necessary. Push-attacks cost less than full pushes; use them sparingly.

6. Use Your Blitz Ability Wisely

Each class has a unique Blitz (grenade or ability) that recharges over time. Save your Zealot's stun grenades for revives, Psyker's Brain Burst for snipers, Veteran's frag for elite packs, and Ogryn's box for staggering monsters. Don't waste them on basic poxwalkers.

7. Stick Together, But Not Too Close

Cohesion is key – you share Toughness regeneration when near allies. However, don't clump up because a single bomber or flamer can wipe you all. Keep a spread of 5-10 meters, ready to support each other while maintaining escape routes.

8. Prioritize Specials and Elites

A single Trapper, Dog, or Flamer can end a run instantly. Kill specials as soon as they appear. Ping them (Q) to alert your team. Elites like Crushers and Bulwarks are dangerous but have slow attacks; focus them between horde waves.

9. Learn the Maps and Events

Each mission has scripted events, spawn triggers, and objective sequences. Knowing when a horde is coming lets you position in a defensible spot (e.g., back to a wall, high ground). Pay attention to in-game callouts and repeating patterns.

10. Don't Sleep on Curio Perks

Your curios (accessories) can roll powerful perks like +Toughness, +Health, +Stamina, or +Block Efficiency. Prioritize Toughness and Stamina Regeneration for survivability. For Ogryns, +Damage Reduction is also huge. Re-roll perks at Hadron's shrine to min-max your build.
